At Faith Recovery, we are more than a treatment center—we are a sanctuary of healing, hope, and renewal. As a clinically managed, faith-based program, we are dedicated to walking alongside individuals on their journey to lasting recovery.

History of Faith Recovery – Formerly Youth Challenge

Faith Recovery was founded in 1979 by Rev. Troy Collier, after 10 years of outreach to the Newport News area from programs he founded in Little Rock, AR.

Once an alcoholic himself, Rev. Collier founded the 22nd Teen Challenge in the U.S. back in the 1960s. Today, there are well over 300 TC centers nationwide and over 1,000 internationally.

Rev. Collier’s heart to bring hope to the hopeless drove his passion to see lives changed. After receiving a phone call from a Newport News resident asking him to come to Newport News to the aid of a young heroin addict named Jimmy, Troy began coming to Virginia to bring young men back to his program in Little Rock.

After 10 years of working closely with Newport News courts, Rev. Collier came to Newport News for good and founded Faith Recovery.

From Small Beginnings to Lasting Impact

In 1979, Faith Recovery began in a small building in Newport News and later expanded to a 39,000 sqft facility, which serves as our Hope Center and includes our Men’s Home and administrative offices.

Today, Faith Recovery serves the entire Hampton Roads region, Southside, and Peninsula.

For 36 years, Rev. Collier faithfully served the Hampton Roads community until July 2015, when he passed away at age 87. Rev. Collier was recognized with many community awards, including Newport News Citizen of the Year.

Because of one man’s heart and his obedience to God, thousands of lives have been impacted by Rev. Collier’s work. And even though he is no longer with us, his legacy will continue to impact lives for many years to come.

Continuing the Mission

Faith Recovery continues to grow, guided by the same vision of hope and transformation that began in 1979. Our work today is built on a foundation of faith, compassion, and commitment to every individual we serve.
